Downer is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fleet Workshop Manager to join our team in Mackay Queensland. This is a pivotal leadership role where youll oversee the daily operations of our fleet maintenance workshop ensuring the safe efficient and high-quality servicing of vehicles and equipment.

About the role

As Fleet Workshop Manager you will:

  • Lead a team of skilled technicians and mechanics.
  • Manage workshop resources and maintenance expenditure to deliver best value.
  • Ensure compliance with safety environmental and legislative standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to optimise fleet performance.
  • Drive a culture of Zero Harm and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and allocate work orders based on team capacity and skills.
  • Monitor and report on workshop KPIs and performance.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and deliver services with minimal disruption.
  • Champion safety initiatives and lead weekly Zero Harm meetings.
  • Provide coaching feedback and development opportunities to your team.

What youll bring

  • Trade qualification (Diesel Mechanic/Fitter) or Heavy Commercial Vehicle (earthmoving equipment)
  • Previous exposure to civil construction equipment.
  • Experience within the asphalt or thin surfacing industries highly regarded.
  • Minimum 3 years experience managing fleet maintenance or workshop operations.
  • Strong leadership communication and planning skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a proactive solutions-focused mindset.
