What You Will Do
This position supports the integrated care provided in Counseling and Health Services by supporting medical providers efforts to screen primary care patients for mental health conditions. This position will provide in cooperation with our health service and counseling services teams implement and evaluate a course of action of each patient. They will monitor patients physical and emotional well-being and support referrals from primary care to counseling services. This position will support our capacity to identify students with mental health concerns who may not present initially for counseling services. It also supports our medical professionals whose capacity to screen for mental health conditions is hindered by overall demand and staffing. Ultimately this position supports the overall health of our university students through early identification and intervention.

Four (4) years (48 months) of direct patient care experience in a psychiatric or mental health care setting.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of human behavior and individual performance differences in ability personality interests learning and motivation.
Basic knowledge of principles and techniques of psychology such as psychotherapy and behavior modification.
Knowledge of the causes nature and treatment of mental illness.
Skill in active listening (i.e. giving full attention to what other people are saying taking time to understand the points being made asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times) and critical thinking.
Skill in therapeutic communication or demonstrated therapeutic communication skills.
