This position is hiring for a part-time(19 hours/week) Library Assistant at the Skyland/South Buncombe Library. Library Assistants are the backbone of library operations expected to provide exemplary customer service perform a number of clerical functions such as answering phones and engage in some library-specific tasks such as book repair reference research and book recommendations.
We are a busy dynamic branch located in South Asheville immediately next door to T.C. Roberson High School. We consistently see the 2nd or 3rd highest circulation numbers of any Buncombe County Library and we serve a huge range of community demographics. Our staff includes 6 team members -- a Branch Manager a Youth Services Librarian and four Library Assistants including this vacancy. We are a close-knit group who take pride in forming strong team connections as well as connections with the neighborhoods we serve. Due to the number of children and teenagers who come through our doors we are not a hush library and applicants should expect an environment where afternoons and weekends are often fast-paced and frequently a little chaotic and noisy!
The Skyland/South Buncombe Library is currently open:
Tuesday 10AM to 8PM
Wednesday - Friday 10AM to 6PM
Saturday 10AM to 5PM
The anticipatedwork schedule for this position:
Tuesday 2:30PM to 7PM
Wednesday 12PM to 4PM
Friday 9AM to 4PM
Saturday 11AM to 3PM
Some flexibility may be possible but is not guaranteed and staff members should know that schedules could change in the future as library branch hours across the system continue to evolve.
Purpose of the position:
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of functions for the Buncombe County Library System including staffing customer service desks office support clerical work and activities involved in providing public and technical services across multiple library locations.
Minimum Education Training and/or Experience (required at time of hire): High school diploma or GED and one (1) year library experience or two (2) years in an office setting requiring forward facing customer service duties; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
