About Us:
The Ohio Emergency Management Agency is a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety and is the states central point of coordination for response to and recovery from disasters. When not in a response or recovery mode our focus is to ensure that Ohio and its citizens are prepared to respond to an emergency or disaster and to lead mitigation efforts against the effects of future disasters.
We interface with local state and federal agencies to bring resources of recovery and support to Ohioans impacted by disaster. Our activities also include education training planning and preparedness- strengthening Ohios first responder capabilities and improving communication across the state.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT:
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires travel; must provide own transportation; exposed to disaster sites must be available for weekend & after normal hour duty work will require absence from home for extended period of time during disaster & emergency must be able to respond to disasters 24 hours a day 7 days a week except on approved vacation times; Exposed to dirt & debris; exposed to impacted areas (i.e. flood hazardous material spills blizzard riot tornado devastation) which may also be bio-hazard areas (e.g. tetanus hepatitis).
The position requires valid drivers license to operate state-owned vehicle or must be able to provide own transportation.
A BCI fingerprint check and background check may be required on all selected applicants.

Provides regional emergency management assistance to enhance the operational capacity in a large multi county region:
Conducts on-site technical assistance visits formal training classes & seminars;
Provides independent evaluation to the Disaster Services Supervisor on the status of local government emergency preparedness & operational readiness based on activities to include but not limited to training programs exercise activities meetings with local officials & public outreach;
Represents state at county &/or regional level events &/or meetings involving emergency management (i.e. mitigation preparedness response & recovery);
Coordinate between state & locals to solve problems;
Assists local emergency management agencies in developing conducting & evaluating training programs & exercises for systems structures plans & personnel integral to emergency operations;
Serves as State Emergency Response Commission exercise facilitator for development execution & evaluation of Ohio Revised Codes 3750 & 5502 required exercises;
Assists as a state level instructor for training courses;
Advises guides & assists local officials in time of disaster/emergency to verify estimated damage & identify potential requests for state & federal assistance & makes recommendations to Executive Director of Emergency Management acts as state liaison to local governments in region &/or district of the state during emergencies & local activations;
Physically deploy to support Emergency Operations Center activations & other regional offices & counties during disasters & emergencies;
Establish & maintain the flow of situational information from the local level to the state level;
Performs administrative duties such as typing filing trip reports correspondence with counties maintains files in data processor directory on computer system;
Support assigned special projects as identified by supervisor branch chief or operations administrative officer.
