We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Middle School Counselor to join our educational team. The Middle School Counselor will play a vital role in supporting the academic social emotional and personal development of middle school students. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication interpersonal and problem-solving skills to foster a positive and inclusive school environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:

  1. Educational Staff Associate (ESA) counseling certification required.
  2. Masters Degree with emphasis in middle school counseling.
  3. Demonstrated interest commitment and ability to work with students staff and community at the middle school level.
  4. Demonstrated experience in working effectively with a wide range of student abilities both academically and socially.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a counseling team.
  6. Excellent communication interpersonal and listening skills.
  7. Empathy compassion and a nonjudgmental approach to working with students.
  8. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  9. Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  10. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in counseling.
  11. Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to student privacy and confidentiality.
  12. Proficiency in using technology for record-keeping communication and research.
  13. Previous experience working as a middle school counselor or in a related field is preferred.
  14. Bilingual preferred

  2. Interest in and evidence of continued professional growth in the area of school counseling

WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF:

  1. Strong understanding of adolescent development psychology and counseling techniques.
  2. Test administration and test result interpretation to students parents and others.
  3. Community agency and community resource use.
  4. Individual and group counseling techniques.
  5. Multicultural education and counseling.
  6. Helping students with social and emotional needs.
  7. Intervention techniques common to school counseling.
  8. Special Education and Section 504 laws regulations handicapping conditions and Individual Education Plans.
  9. Career and vocational counseling
  10. Student scheduling master schedule building process and registration.
  11. ASCA national model.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students dealing with academic challenges social issues emotional concerns and personal development.
  2. Conduct assessments to identify students needs strengths and areas requiring intervention and develop personalized intervention plans.
  3. Collaborate with teachers parents and other school staff to support students overall well-being and academic success.
  4. Organize and facilitate workshops and presentations on topics relevant to middle school students such as study skills stress management conflict resolution and career exploration.
  5. Foster a safe and inclusive space where students can discuss their concerns openly and without judgment.
  6. Mediate conflicts between students and help them develop effective conflict resolution skills.
  7. Assist in creating and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans for students with special needs.
  8. Monitor students academic progress attendance and behavior and intervene as necessary to address any issues.
  9. Collaborate with outside agencies psychologists and social workers when necessary to provide comprehensive support to students.
  10. Keep accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions interventions and student progress.
  11. Stay informed about current trends research and best practices in school counseling and education.
  12. Participate in professional development activities and training to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.
  13. Actively engage in the school community through participation in staff meetings committees and school events.
  14. Promote a positive school culture that values diversity inclusivity and respect.
  15. Maintain excellent attendance
