Position Summary:

The School of Education at the University of WisconsinPlatteville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education with a focus on elementary and middle level mathematics. The anticipated start date is August 2026.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses engaging in research and scholarly activity and contributing to university and departmental service. Candidates with experience teaching in rural settings are especially encouraged to apply in alignment with the School of Educations mission to meet the needs of rural communities.

This is a full-time benefit-eligible position with a salary range of $60000$62000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • The primary duty will be teaching undergraduate courses in elementary and middle level math methods and professional education along with supervising practicum experiences in K-9 grade classrooms. Faculty hired for this position will teach an average of 12 credit hours of coursework each semester.

  • Mentor and advise undergraduate students including undergraduate student research and scholarly activities.

  • Engage in departmental university and community service and outreach activities including working with K-12 teachers.

  • Contribute to efforts to assess student learning outcomes and engage in feedback-driven course and program improvements.

  • Engage in research or scholarly activity and continuing education.

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff from other disciplines within the School of Education across campus and beyond.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. focused on teaching elementary and middle level mathematics in programs such as Mathematics Education Curriculum & Instruction Elementary Education STEM Education Teacher Education or related education field.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • At least 3 years of demonstrated proficiency teaching in kindergarten through grade 9 settings that included teaching mathematics.

  • Record of professional development research or publications in mathematics education or related fields that supports evidence of specialized skills.

  • Demonstrated expertise in elementary and middle level mathematics curriculum instruction and assessment showing advanced knowledge beyond that of a general teacher.
