The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking an exceptional surgeon to join the faculty of a dynamic and growing Division of Acute Care and Regional General Surgery. Our division provides emergency general surgery trauma surgical critical care and burn services at UW Health University Hospital as well as emergency general surgery services and elective general surgery services to the Madison area UW affiliated hospitals. Our division is taking the lead on expanding emergency general surgery service and adding trauma coverage at East Madison Hospital.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to join a well-established group of acute care and general surgeons and expand surgical care throughout the greater Madison area. This position does not require fellowship training in burn trauma emergency general surgery or surgical critical care but surgical critical care board eligibility or certification is preferred.
Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles Clinical Assistant Professor Clinical Associate Professor Clinical Professor Assistant Professor (CHS) Associate Professor (CHS) Professor (CHS) Visiting Associate Professor or Visiting Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.
This position requires work to be completed onsite at a designated campus work location.
This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
Clinical:
This position will be based primarily at East Madison Hospital with some opportunities to cover acute care surgical services at Meriter and University Hospital.
The successful candidate will join our Acute Care Surgical team and will have primary responsibility to cover the Emergency General Surgery service at East Madison Hospital.
The successful candidate will participate in the call pool commiserate with training and Surgical Critical Care board certification and eligibility.
A principal duty of this position is to help develop Level III Trauma Center capabilities at East Madison Hospital.
Service and Teaching:
Teach medical students residents and fellows.
Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Wisconsin Medical license by start date of position.
Board certification or Board Eligible in Surgery through the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent by appointment start date
Completion of a General Residency by the appointment start date.

For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.
For an appointment at Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor rank on CT Track candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CT Track.
