Job Description: Dean of Academics
Position Summary
The Dean of Academics serves as an academic leader within the Division of Instruction and reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Instruction. This position is responsible for the leadership supervision and coordination of all academic programs/courses within their division regardless of delivery method or location including dual credit. The Dean works collaboratively with faculty staff and administration to ensure high-quality instruction student success and compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Dean of Academics will:
- Leadership & Communication
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for the department/division.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration within the Division of Instruction and across college departments.
- Curriculum & Instructional Oversight
- Assist the Senior Vice President of Instruction in establishing educational goals and outcomes.
- Lead faculty in developing and assessing learner outcomes for courses and programs.
- Oversee curriculum development program evaluation and course revisions to meet student transfer and workforce needs.
- Faculty Recruitment & Support
- Identify staffing needs and recruit qualified full-time and adjunct faculty.
- Participate in the hiring process and make recommendations for employment.
- Orient new faculty provide resources for instructional support and foster professional growth.
- Academic Standards & Compliance
- Ensure academic quality and rigor are maintained in all courses and programs regardless of location or delivery method.
- Monitor faculty performance and ensure instructional responsibilities are fulfilled in alignment with job descriptions and institutional policies.
- Budget & Resource Management
- Develop and recommend the annual division/department budgets.
- Maintain effective budgetary control over assigned programs and disciplines.
- Scheduling & Enrollment Management
- Coordinate class schedules in collaboration with other Deans for each instructional term.
- Assist in planning to ensure sufficient course offerings and effective use of instructional resources.
- Policy & Procedure Development
- Support the development and implementation of institutional policies and procedures related to faculty and instruction.
- Address issues or concerns within the department and work with administration to resolve them.
- Teaching
- Maintain a teaching load of 4/4/0/0 per academic year.
- Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Vice President of Instruction or the President.
Required Qualifications
- Masters degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to teach in multiple delivery formats including in-person ITV Zoom and online platforms.
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.
- Proficiency with instructional technologies such as Microsoft Office Internet applications and Learning Management Systems (Canvas Blackboard etc.).
