Job Summary

Job Description

The City of Saratoga Springs currently has an opening for Fleet Mechanic I II or III. This position includes performing basic to master journey level major to complex work in the mechanical repair and maintenance of light and heavy gasoline and diesel driven automotive and other mechanical equipment.

Works under the specific direction of the Fleet Shop Supervisor and the general directions of the Fleet Administrator and the Public Works Director. All employees are also under the general supervision of the City Manager.

Fleet Mechanic III acts as a lead worker for lower-level Fleet staff as assigned by the Fleet Shop Supervisor and/or the Fleet Administrator.

Qualifications

Fleet Mechanic I

Education & Experience:

  • Graduation from High School or a GED equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience performing automotive and heavy-duty equipment maintenance and repair at the apprentice level

Special Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Utah CDL class A Drivers License with a Tanker endorsement or be able to obtain one within 6 months.
    • Must possess a valid USDOT medical card
  • Be enrolled in the UDOT- Heavy-Duty Safety Inspection certification course

Fleet Mechanic II

Education & Experience:

  • Graduation from High School or a GED equivalent
  • Four (4) years of experience:
    • two (2) years of experience performing automotive and heavy-duty equipment maintenance and repair at the apprentice level and
    • two (2) years of additional experience assisting automotive trade workers

Special Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Utah CDL class A Drivers License with a Tanker endorsement or be able to obtain one within 6 months.
    • Must possess a valid USDOT medical card
  • Must possess ASE Certifications for:
    • Automobile & Light Truck Certification Brakes (A Series A5)
    • Automobile & Light Truck Certification - Suspension and Steering (A Series A4)
  • Must possess a UDOT Heavy-Duty Safety Inspection certification

Fleet Mechanic III

Education & Experience:

  • An Associate Degree in Automotive Technology or a similar field
  • Four (4) years of experience as an automotive mechanic power driven mechanic or a heavy-duty equipment mechanic

Special Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Utah CDL class A Drivers License with a Tanker endorsement or be able to obtain one within 6 months.
    • Must possess a valid USDOT medical card
  • Must possess ASE Certifications for:
    • Automobile & Light Truck Certification Brakes (A Series A5)
    • Automobile & Light Truck Certification - Manual Drive Train and Axles (A Series A3)
    • Automobile & Light Truck Certification - Suspension and Steering (A Series A4)
    • Automobile & Light Truck Certification - Heating and Air Conditioning (A Series A7)
  • Must possess a UDOT Heavy-Duty Safety Inspection certification

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range:

The full wage range is as follows please note hiring will normally occur between the Minimum of the range and will not exceed the Midpoint of the range:

Fleet Mechanic I: Minimum - $22.59/hr. Midpoint - $27.11/hr. Maximum - $31.63/hr.

Fleet Mechanic II: Minimum - $25.58/hr. Midpoint - $30.70/hr. Maximum - $35.81/hr.

Fleet Mechanic II: Minimum - $27.50/hr. Midpoint - $33.00/hr. Maximum - $38.50/hr.

The City participates in the Utah Public Retirement System (pension). In addition the City does not participate in Social Security so no Social Security taxes are deducted from your lieu of the Citys Social Security contributions the City contributes 6.2% of salary into a 401(k) retirement plan.
Leave time benefits include 120 hours of paid time off (PTO) accrued annually 40 hours of short-term medical accrued annually and 11 holidays annually.
