Job Summary

We are currently looking for a Communications and influencing officer:

  • Contract duration: Initial 12-month national contract at 0.9 FTE (90%) equivalent to 36 hours per week with the possibility of extension.
  • Location: SNV head office in The Hague Netherlands or SNV country office in Power for Food Partnership operating countries Uganda (Nairobi) Kenya (Eldoret) Rwanda (Kigali) or Ethiopia (Addis Ababa).

Our Power For Food Assignment
The Power for Food Partnership is a 45 million five-year initiative led by SNV and funded by the IKEA Foundation (IKF) to drive systemic change at the intersection of agri-food and energy systems across Uganda Rwanda Kenya and Ethiopia. By integrating regenerative agriculture (RA) with the productive use of renewable energy (PURE) the Partnership aims to improve livelihoods strengthen local food systems and enhance sustainability. Through a nexus approach it seeks to accelerate adoption of RA and PURE foster policy action and build stakeholder collaboration enabling smallholder farmers and SMEs to thrive. Its work is structured around three pathways: Learn (evidence generation and knowledge exchange) Link (collaboration and convening partners) and Leverage (embedding approaches into policy and investment). Ultimately the Partnership envisions resilient renewable energy-driven food systems where people have equitable opportunities to prosper while protecting the planet.

The Partnership operates with dedicated teams in each of the four focus countries coordinated and supported by an overarching partnership team. This central team is composed of five positions: the Partnership Lead LEARN Advisor LEVERAGE Advisor MEL (Monitoring Evaluation & Learning) Advisor and Communications & Influencing Officer. The selected candidate will form part of this core team working collaboratively to support and strengthen the Partnership across all countries.

Your role
As Communications and influencing officer for the Power for Food Partnership you will lead the development and implementation of a compelling communications and influencing strategy centred on the Regenerative AgricultureProductive Use of Renewable Energy (RAPURE) nexus. Reporting to the Partnership Lead and working closely with country teams technical experts SNVs global Marketing Communications and Public Affairs team and implementing partners you will play a pivotal role in strengthening programme visibility driving narrative change and influencing systems change at scale.

You will develop persuasive audience-specific content that communicates the value and impact of RAPURE integration and shape a powerful storytelling approach that brings together evidence from implementation field-level insights and voices from the ground. By ensuring the partnerships strategic messages are well represented across external platforms events and media you will position the partnership as a thought leader and mobilise actors across sectors.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned strategic and creative communications professional who is passionate about using communications and influencing to accelerate systemic transformation and deliver lasting impact.

Key responsibilities

Strategic communications and influencing

  • Lead the development and implementation with in-country communications officers of a cross-cutting communications and influencing strategy that strengthens programme visibility and supports systemic transformation around the RAPURE nexus.
  • Shape and deliver a coherent narrative and strategic messaging framework that positions the P4FP Partnership as a thought leader in the integration of regenerative agriculture and productive use of renewable energy.
  • In collaboration with partners identify and co-shape influencing material for strategic engagement opportunities (e.g. global fora media platforms roundtables).
  • Maintain an annual communications and influencing (C&I) agenda aligned with partnership milestones and external events.

Content development and storytelling

  • Shape the partnerships narrative and coordinate messaging across countries ensuring content is audience-centric evidence-based and aligned both with SNVs global messaging and the partnerships influencing goals.
  • Translate field-level insights learnings and evidence from implementation and community voices into high-quality multi-media contentincluding articles blogs impact briefs visual storytelling event communications and social media campaignsconveying complex technical topics in accessible and compelling ways. 

Stakeholder engagement and movement-building

  • Together with the LINK Advisor lead strategic communications for movement-building by shaping shared narratives convening diverse stakeholders and driving advocacy learning and visibility to accelerate uptake of the RAPURE nexus.
  • Together with the LEVERAGE Advisor identify strategic channels platforms and events (e.g. media workshops learning spaces webinars) to leverage P4FP by sharing insights and evidence enhance visibility and position the partnership effectively.
  • Strengthen connections between country programmes and global efforts surfacing local insights and ensuring strong representation of the partnerships messages across external events panels publications and collaborations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists media outlets knowledge platforms and sector influencers to amplify the partnerships reach visibility and impact.

Capacity strengthening and coordination

  • Provide guidance tools and templates to in-country communications officers to support decentralised content creation while ensuring brand and message consistency.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across country teams to improve the quality coherence and alignment of communications and influencing outputs.
  • Together with LEARN and MEL leads capture and share results lessons and good practices to strengthen internal learning and support adaptive management.

Strategic alignment and internal coordination

  • Liaise and collaborate closely with SNVs Global Marketing Communications and Pubic Affairs team to ensure strategic alignment coherence and maximum reach and visibility for P4FP.
  • Strengthen internal communications and knowledge exchange within the Strategic Partnership team ensuring lessons stories and key messages circulate effectively across the team.

Qualifications :

Who you are

We are looking for an experienced dynamic creative and proactive marketing communications professional with a proven track record and experience / strong interest in the international development sector. You bring not only the skills and experience to succeed in this role; you bring also a way of working that reflects to our CARE principles

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • A bachelors degree in marketing communications journalism public relations business administration international development or a related field
  • At least seven years of relevant work experience ideally in a fast-paced global or multi-country organisation
  • Proven experience designing and implementing communications and influencing strategies that drive visibility engagement and systems change
  • Excellent writing storytelling and content development skills with a track record of producing compelling audience-driven communications
  • Demonstrated ability to advise guide and build the capacity of team members or partners on communications and influencing
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to plan execute and oversee multiple initiatives in a dynamic environment
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools (e.g. MS Teams SharePoint Trello Canva) and a data-driven digital-first approach to communications

    Additionally we are looking for:
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to foster trust and collaboration across countries and cultures
  • A strategic creative and conceptual mindset with enthusiasm for the Power for Food Partnerships mission and a collaborative approach to communication
  • A solutions-oriented and adaptable attitude with the ability to set direction prioritise effectively and navigate change
  • A proactive quality-focused and self-motivated working style with high energy and perseverance
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written); French is an asset
