Job Title: Coordinator Community Engagement
Reports To: Senior Director Outreach & Community Engagement
Status:Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Hourly Rate: $27.00
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Outreach & Community Engagement team in the development and execution of outreach engagement and education initiatives that connect WETA to the communities it serves in the D.C. metropolitan area. The Community Engagement Coordinator will work within the team to manage project tasks and assist with all department activities and events that support projects produced by WETA and within the public broadcasting system. Reports to the Senior Director Outreach & Community Engagement.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide support for Outreach & Community Engagement
- Create manage and maintain community databases and utilize email marketing platforms including Mailchimp to distribute e-communications to external stakeholders about programming and other WETA content
- Serve as the contact person/screener of the department email and provide appropriate response
- Research and draft content for monthly e-newsletter marketing communications and other projects as required
- Assist with all in person and virtual events and workshops to include logistics staffing materials registration RSVPs and onsite and tech support
- Code and process invoices on a timely basis
- Develop systems and processes that will optimize workflow in the department
- Attend virtual internal and external industry meetings on engagement and programming
- Work alongside WETA Volunteer Coordinator to coordinate volunteers for department events and mailings.
- Assist with meeting and calendar management for the department
- Perform related special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year of office experience.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of general office procedures.
- Demonstrated understanding and application of computer technology using Microsoft Office Programs (Word
- Excel PowerPoint).
- Experience with Mailchimp Canva or other design software for graphics creation is highly preferred.
- High level of organization and attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills. Service orientation is highly preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with careful attention to detail.
- Ability to take initiative and handle various tasks simultaneously be flexible and able to prioritize.
- Creative thinker with an outgoing personality.
- Positive attitude and calm demeanor with the ability to perform under pressure.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment in an atmosphere of multiple projects and shifting priorities
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum one year of experience in promotion public relations marketing education or community engagement environment or equivalent experience as a student leader or volunteer in the above areas.
LOCATION:
WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington VA office will be onsite or hybrid depending upon the role.
