Job Description

The Target Discovery & Validation group within the In Vitro Biology Early Discovery department at Evotec headquarters in Hamburg is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated

Research Assistant (all genders)

Target Validation Assays

Full-time and permanent

The successful candidate will use cutting-edge technologies to develop or use assays for target validation and use different methods relevant to small molecule drug discovery and development against neurodegenerative and other diseases.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement cellular assays for target validation (primary cell culture cell lines transfection virus mediated gene transfer)
  • Use and establish plate- and image-based readouts
  • Use and establish genome editing methodologies such as CRISPR/Cas9 paired with various cargo types and delivery methods
  • Plan perform and analyze cellular molecular biology and biochemical laboratory experiments (e.g. Protein DNA and RNA isolation and analysis immunocytochemistry and imaging)
  • Manage project demands ensuring quality and timely delivery of data
  • Record experiments independently in electronic lab notebook

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed apprenticeship (BTA/CTA/MTA) with some years of professional laboratory experience or a bachelors or masters degree in the field of biological sciences/in vitro pharmacology or related subjects
  • Work experience with cellular assays preferably in a Pharma Biotech or a CRO setting
  • Substantial hands-on experience of cell culture assays (cultivation & transfection of cell lines or primary cells immunocytochemistry etc.)
  • Experience with standard molecular and biochemical techniques (basic DNA RNA and protein assays)
  • Experience with transfection and genome editing methods is a plus
  • Experience with handling and isolation of primary cells and possession of a FELASA B certificate is a plus
  • Well-organized dynamic personality with high levels of drive enthusiasm and commitment
  • Excellent team spirit and capability of working with a wide degree of autonomy and independence
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team
  • Fluency in written and spoken English German advantageous
