Role Focus
We seek a dynamic and strategic leader to drive portfolio prioritisation and early development planning at a national level. Additionally you will lead the pipeline medical in-field team within the Medical Affairs department. This role requires strong in-field leadership and cross-functional strategic collaboration with Global Clinical Research Regulatory Affairs Market Access and Commercial teams.

Primary Functions

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the pipeline medical in-field team and ensure its compliance to corporate requirements and processes on medical activities
  • Drive affiliate-level pipeline strategy development in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive long-term view of upcoming indications for AbbVie Germany aligned with enterprise growth ambitions.
  • Map and establish trusted relationships with key academics and clinicians across relevant therapeutic areas.
  • Assess the competitive landscape to understand alternative therapeutic options for targeted indications.
  • Prioritise indications to focus resources effectively within Germany.
  • Represent Medical Affairs Germany in internal global touchpoint meetings to ensure local perspectives contribute to global strategy.
  • Act as the central liaison between the Germany affiliate and Area/Global development teams ensuring alignment and efficient information sharing.
  • Lead optimisation of processes related to pipeline prioritisation and pre-launch readiness.
  • Coordinate transfer of insights from early development programmes to Therapeutic Area teams during asset launch readiness.
  • Manage the activities and KPIs of the pMSL team and the Medical Manager ensuring objectives are met for enterprise-critical trials.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Oversee proactive mapping and planning of AbbVies clinical trial footprint in Germany.
  • Build and maintain a robust information base for potential indications to inform affiliate senior leadership decisions.

Accountability & Scope

  • Provide oversight of pipeline activities in Germany in collaboration with leadership across Research Strategy Market Access Clinical Operations and Medical Affairs.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of AbbVies early-stage assets and indications providing structured input into strategic planning.
  • Support governance of evidence processes aligning affiliate activities with Area and Global strategies.
  • Scope of responsibility spans all current and future therapeutic areas including early pipeline.
  • Budget oversight.

Qualifications :

Qualifications

  • Medical degree (preferred) or scientific degree (PhD advantageous) with a strong background in clinical trial development evidence generation and research least 10 years experience in pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry medical affairs including demonstrated expertise in medical field excellence.
  • Ability to build/lead and develop a high performing team fostering skills knowledge and behaviour of the team developing talents
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects within cross-functional teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of drug development clinical trial design regulatory frameworks and pipeline commercialisation strategies.
  • Strong ethical reputation and integrity.
  • Excellent communication networking and presentation skills in both German and English.
  • Confident independent work style with established leadership capabilities.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking ability.

Authority and Reporting Lines
This position reports to the Head of Medical Oncology Germany within the Medical Affairs and Health Impact organisation.

Location
Field-based with national remit. Significant travel required across Germany with flexibility in remote work arrangements
