Job Description

Are you a passionate and driven Business and Economics teacher looking for the next step in your career A fantastic high-achieving academy in the Swindon area is seeking a dedicated Head of Business and Economics to lead their thriving department from January 2026. Whether you are an experienced Head of Department or an ambitious teacher ready to step up into leadership we encourage you to apply.

About the Role
This is a full-time permanent position starting in January 2026. You will be responsible for leading the Business and Economics department while teaching Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 students. The role involves shaping the curriculum supporting departmental growth and inspiring both students and colleagues. Strong leadership skills and a commitment to academic excellence are essential.

About the Academy
This large and oversubscribed mixed academy has approximately 1727 students on roll making it one of the biggest secondary schools in Wiltshire. Rated Good in all areas by Ofsted in November 2024 the academy has built a strong reputation locally and is consistently oversubscribed. GCSE outcomes are above national averages with 51.1% of students achieving grade 5 or above in English and Maths in 2024. The sixth form is thriving with excellent A-Level results and strong progression into higher education apprenticeships and employment.

The academy is well known for excellent student behaviour a culture of high expectations and an inclusive ethos that supports every learner. Staff benefit from access to modern facilities specialist resources and regular investment in teaching spaces. There is a strong emphasis on professional development with CPD leadership pathways and career progression opportunities embedded into the school culture. Alongside this a wide range of enrichment opportunities ensures students are well-rounded ambitious and prepared for future success. The Business and Economics department is ambitious well-resourced and forward-thinking providing a curriculum that develops critical thinking analytical skills and a genuine interest in the world of business.

We are looking for someone who

  • Has experience teaching Business and/or Economics at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a PGCE in a relevant subject
  • Possesses proven leadership skills or clear evidence of readiness to step into a Head of Department role
  • Demonstrates strong subject knowledge and the ability to inspire both students and colleagues
  • Is committed to raising standards driving departmental success and contributing to the wider life of the academy
