Downey CA $115000 - $135000 Direct Full-Time Onsite Aerospace
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client a long-standing employee-owned manufacturer serving aerospace defense and commercial aviation is seeking a Controller with strong cost accounting expertise to lead their finance and accounting function. This is a Director-level role reporting directly to the CEO with responsibility for financial reporting compliance and cost analysis that directly supports operational and strategic decisions.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Lead cost accounting operations including inventory management cost roll-ups product costing and margin analysis ensuring accuracy and insight into manufacturing performance.
- Develop and oversee budgeting forecasting and cost variance analysis to provide leadership with actionable recommendations.
- Direct the full accounting cycle including general ledger financial reporting reconciliations and compliance with US GAAP.
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team setting priorities around cost and financial accuracy.
- Support manufacturing operations with real-time financial insights ad hoc cost analysis and scenario modeling.
- Manage inventory accounting across finished goods raw materials work-in-progress fixed assets and tooling.
- Oversee external audits and ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements at local state and federal levels.
- Partner with senior leadership to evaluate processes improve efficiency and support long-term financial strategy.
- Maintain strong relationships with banks and financial partners.
WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE
- 5 years of combined accounting finance and cost accounting experience.
- 3 years in a leadership/management role.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred).
- Manufacturing accounting background required; aerospace exposure preferred but not mandatory.
- Hands-on ERP experience; Plex familiarity is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP budgeting and financial statement preparation.
- Proven ability to analyze cost structures evaluate variances and translate data into meaningful business recommendations.
- Excellent leadership communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
