Job Description

The Social Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is now accepting applications for part-time Lecturers who will teach up to four courses in the Power Identity and Resistance sequence or other Core sequences in the Social Sciences Core during the 2025-26 academic year. Power Identity and Resistance is a three-quarter general education sequence that introduces students to a variety of approaches in the interpretive social sciences. It explores the philosophical foundations of modern social and political thought through critical chronological study of original texts. To learn more about the sequence and the Social Sciences Core see the Colleges online catalog: include preparing and teaching seminar-style courses holding regularly scheduled office hours preparing and grading assignments and attending staff meetings.

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University.



The position requires a Ph.D. in a social sciences discipline. The position is open to applicants who will have completed all requirements for their Ph.D. no later than August 31 2025. Experience teaching relevant coursework at the college level is required.
