Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Laboratory Instrument Specialist Boca Raton FL.
The Department Laboratory Instrument Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the research and instructional mission of the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department. This position is responsible for the oversight maintenance and optimization of shared departmental instrumentation ensuring safe and effective use by faculty staff and students.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain all core research and teaching instruments within the department.
- Provide technical support to faculty for instrument-related issues in research laboratories.
- Train graduate students in instrument operation safety protocols and data interpretation.
- Assist students with specialized experimental setups and procedures.
- Monitor instrument usage to ensure compliance with safety and operational guidelines.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop new experimental protocols; research relevant literature and consult with manufacturers as needed.
- Diagnose and perform minor repairs on departmental instruments coordinate with external service providers for major repairs.
- Support the Chair in evaluating and procuring new instrumentation.
- Maintain and regularly update the departments instrumentation inventory.
- Conduct tours of instrumentation facilities for visiting groups and prospective students.

Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelors degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Degree fields chemistry biochemistry physics or a related field.
Masters or Ph.D. degrees awarded.
Strong technical background in chemistry-related instrumentation with hands-on experience with techniques such as NMR mass spectrometry spectroscopy and chromatography.
Minimum 35 years of experience with scientific instrumentation in academic industrial or research laboratory settings.
Excellent troubleshooting communication and organizational skills.

$65000 - $70660 per year.
