Job Title: Surgical Assistant
Location: Cincinnati OH
Duration: 2 Months with Possible Extension
Shift: 6:30 AM 5:30 PM Onsite
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Assistant to provide direct intraoperative support to surgeons and ensure safe efficient and effective surgical procedures. The Surgical Assistant will be responsible for identifying anatomy in the operative field maintaining visualization assisting with hemostasis wound closure and applying dressings. This role requires strong technical expertise clinical judgment and professionalism with the ability to collaborate effectively with patients physicians and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Intraoperative Assistance (under surgeon supervision):
Position patients for optimal surgical exposure.
Provide visualization of the operative site through retraction tissue manipulation suctioning irrigating and sponging.
Manipulate suture materials and maintain proper body mechanics.
Assist with hemostasis using appropriate techniques.
Perform wound closure including subcutaneous suturing subcuticular closure and skin closure (suture staples adhesives).
Administer postoperative local anesthetic injections (as directed).
Select and apply wound dressings and secure drainage systems.
Independent Surgical Assistance:
Harvest veins radial arteries tendons bone or skin grafts.
Assist in plastic closure for reconstructive procedures.
Provide expert intraoperative support during complex surgical cases.
Professional Development & Compliance:
Stay current with evolving surgical technologies and specialty techniques.
Comply with hospital policies procedures and safety standards.
Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
Skills & Experience Required:
Strong knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Excellent eye-hand coordination; ability to stand for long durations.
Sound clinical judgment and application of surgical principles.
Demonstrated competency in surgical assisting skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 4 years of surgical experience with 2 years in a specialty area.
Education & Certifications:
Completion of a two-year college or accredited surgical assisting program.
Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association.
Professional certification strongly preferred (NSAA CFA AA-C or RNFA).
