Under general supervision the Plans Examiner is responsible for reviewing all building permit applications and plans requested by the department. The employee must log and route applications and plans to the applicable City departments and must be knowledgeable in all the building codes adopted by the City of McAllen. The employee reviews building plans to assure compliance with all building construction codes. (I.e. proper number of exits fire walls automatic sprinkler systems etc.). The employee conducts pre-submission conferences with architects engineers contractors building owners and various City departments in order to discuss and explain technical requirements of codes and ordinances and discrepancies found at plan review.
