The Opportunity:

THIS WORK MATTERS!

The Multnomah County Community Health Center is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Communications Coordinator to join our team! This is a dynamic role at the heart of our creative department where youll be instrumental in developing and implementing communications and marketing strategies for the Community Health Center.

In this position youll be a key collaborator working closely with all division programs the Health Department Communications team the Central Communications team and the IT department. Youll also partner with directors to handle high-level internal and external communication needs ensuring our messages are clear impactful and consistent.

As the Communications Coordinator your responsibilities will include:

  • Communications Strategy and Implementation: You will lead the development and execution of comprehensive communication strategies and plans ensuring all content is inclusive culturally responsive and accessible to diverse internal and external audiences. Youll manage projects from start to finish ensuring they are on time and within budget.

  • Interdepartmental Coordination: You will serve as a key liaison working closely with the County Communications Office and the IT department to coordinate public health messages manage web communication projects and ensure effective information flow across the division and county.

  • Content Development & Collaboration: Youll create compelling content for various platforms including web social media and print publications. This involves gathering information from subject matter experts and collaborating with stakeholders to write edit and coordinate impactful communications.

  • Audience-Specific Messaging: You will craft communications that resonate with specific audiences whether its developing presentations for internal or external use or writing in the voice and tone of different department leaders. Youll also identify and create stories that highlight the Community Health Centers mission and foster a sense of pride among employees.

  • Graphic Design and Visual Strategy: Youll provide advanced graphic design support creating visual materials that effectively communicate key messages. This includes determining the best production methods and vendors for projects and ensuring a consistent look and feel across all materials.

  • Vendor and Subcontractor Management: Youll build and manage a network of external graphic artists and designers. Youll also assist in managing these subcontractor relationships to ensure projects are completed on time and meet the required standards.

  • Team Collaboration: Youll play a key role in the success of the Communications and Marketing Team by actively participating in meetings and projects sharing your expertise and supporting your colleagues work.

  • Cultural Consultation: Youll provide expert guidance on cultural best practices for projects advising on the traditions and customs of various audiences and ensuring all communications and translations are culturally accurate.

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be as noted below. All non-traditional education training and experience will be evaluated.

Education/Training: Equivalent to a bachelors degree. (In lieu of a degree we will consider relevant education experience)

Experience: Three (3) years of responsible experience in web communications/ design news reporting public information/ relations marketing communications or publication development.

Preferred Qualifications/ Transferable Skills*: You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/ transferable skills to qualify. However keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates. Please clearly explain on your application how you meet any of the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills.

  • Experience in government communications

  • Strong writing skills

  • Experience developing policies and procedures

  • Experience developing web based content/ materials

  • High level of creativity using social media for marketing

  • Experience working in community health centers

  • Experience using Adobe Express and Drupal

Inclement Weather and Disasters - Serving the Public Even During Disasters:

Everyday Multnomah County staff work together to serve as a safety net for our communities. During a disaster this safety net becomes even more critical. All County employees have a role in serving the public during inclement weather natural disaster or other types of community emergency response. During these emergency responses while typically there begins with a call for volunteers county employees may ultimately be reassigned from their current position to a role in the emergency response in order to support the critical needs presented by our communities. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Type of Position: This position is eligible for overtime.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Location: Gladys McCoy Building - 619 NW 6th Ave Portland OR 97209. This position is eligible for hybrid telework however the incumbent must reside in Oregon or Washington.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm

Note: All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. We are not able to sponsor H-B1 visas F1 or STEM OPT.
