Job Description

Job Summary

The financial aid outreach and completion specialist is a full-time one year position at Wenatchee Valley College. This position will report to the financial aid director at WVC but will be embedded at Eastmont High School. This position is focused on collaboration with the partner school to increase financial aid application completion through workshops presentations and other outreach methods and initiatives. Financial Aid Applications refers to both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).

Essential Functions

Application Completion Initiatives

This position will be both promoting financial aid applications to students at the high school level but providing group and individual assistance with the goal of increasing total students completing these applications.

  • Create plan and execute workshops and presentations focusing on informing students of available financial aid applications and completion requirements.
  • One-to-one assistance on financial aid admission and scholarship application submission.
  • Assess student progress toward application completion and milestone achievement and make appropriate referrals for additional student support as needed.

Financial Aid Advising

This position will also be providing additional information and assistance to students regarding general financial aid to facilitate their transition to the college level.

  • Guide students on submission of additional documents requested from colleges (i.e. verification documents).
  • Provide financial aid counseling and advice to students and analyze any problems.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and Wenatchee Valley College when resolving student account issues and outstanding items.

Reporting and Analysis

This position will need to perform various administrative and reporting duties both throughout the week and periodically as requested. Information and reports may be requested by WVC or by the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC)

  • Track students collect analyze and report on student interactions and attendance for events.
  • Creation of reports to the state on outreach initiative outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree.
  • One year experience in student financial aid student services or related field.
  • Experience with FAFSA and/or WASFA applications.
  • Excellent writing speaking and presentation skills.
  • Or if you do not meet one or more of qualifications listed above but have an applicable combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or higher earned degree.
  • One or more years experience presenting information to large groups of 30 or more in a professional or higher education setting.
  • Experience collecting and preparing reports.
  • Experience with development and implementation of student tracking processes.
  • Experience using online student information systems such as PeopleSoft.
  • One or more years experience working in a community college setting.
  • Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

  • Professionalism: Approach others in a tactful manner react well under pressure treat others with respect and consideration and follow through on commitments.
  • Problem solving: Ability to assess situations and think beyond the immediate issue to anticipate and fulfill future needs before they become complications.
  • Diversity equity and inclusion: Demonstrated competency and experience working in a diverse academic environment inclusive of students faculty and staff of varying social economic cultural ideological gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds and those with physical emotional and/or learning disabilities.
  • Technical/computer skills: High level of proficiency and accuracy in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Canvas PeopleSoft and other college systems; ability to be cross trained to provide basic technical support.
  • Student services: Knowledge of college processes such as admissions enrollment and financial aid; ability to be cross trained to provide student services support.
  • FERPA: Maintain a high level of confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines.

Terms of Employment:

This is a full-time overtime-eligible exempt position contracted until June 30 2026.

The starting salary hiring range for this position is $50000 to $57881. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position. The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual number of contract days worked in the remainder of the fiscal year.
