A critical component in maintaining this quality is proactive and effective processes for the identification and management of high risk and problem loan situations. The Vice-President Special Loans (VP) is accountable to the Senior Vice President Special Loans (SVP) for preserving the Banks capital through the efficient management and collection of non-performing non-consumer loans debts written off and other special supervision accounts with responsibility and management of Special Loans for CIBC.

What Youll be Doing
Providing leadership and effective management of a team comprised of Senior Directors Directors Senior Managers Managers and Analysts located in Toronto and in several locations across Canada who are responsible for the management of a portion of the Banks highest risk business credit portfolio.
Setting appropriate context when assigning work to ensure the achievement of the business units priorities and CIBCs overall goals.
Building team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing special projects and training.
Managing performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
Creating a positive work environment and being an effective role model by championing CIBCs mission vision and values.
Build strong internal and external talent pipeline.
Ensuring compliance with policies standards guidelines and controls by applying the policies and controls fairly and consistently.
Hiring the right people in the right jobs to align individual capabilities with job requirements and business unit goals.
Coaching and adjudication in relation to both the smaller as well as larger more complex files when assigned by the SVP.
Carry out business unit leadership review and decision-making responsibilities under the Reputation and Legal Risk Procedures for credits.
Building productive relationships with business leaders and team members to promote effective knowledge transfer and cooperative activities to optimize outcomes in relation of high risk files managed or shadowed by Special Loans.
Participate in the quarterly reporting process along with the SVP (i.e. quarterly updates for the CRO Finance and LOB leadership and the Banks external auditor).
Assume the lead role in addressing ad hoc requests from the Banks senior executives regulators Internal Audit or external auditor at the request of the SVP.
Lead/co-lead strategic initiatives and/or special projects as assigned by the SVP.
What Were Looking For
Strong knowledge of frontline lending processes and credit adjudication practices is highly desirable with a proven ability to assess and manage credit risk.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively and build strong networks with internal stakeholders across Commercial Banking in Canada and Corporate Banking globally as well as with external partners and clients.
Excellent analytical skills strong business acumen and strong communication skills.
An ability to assimilate information quickly and reach accountable and principled decisions based on recommendations and sound analytical skills.
Deep understanding of complex credit issues and concepts related to assigned files.
Expert knowledge of CIBCs credit products policies and practices.
Good judgement in the identification and management of sensitive situations (e.g. files with broad relationship or reputational complexities).
Strong negotiation presentation and facilitation skills.
Sound people management and leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to influence the actions of others within the immediate area of responsibility.
Results-oriented with high degree of accountability and ability to deal with multiple demands often with competing/conflicting priorities.
Strong communication skills sufficient to translate strategic intent into action across all levels of the organization.
