THE POSITION
Deputy Sheriffs provide services and protection to the public through performance of law enforcement duties. Incumbents are responsible for enforcing laws and preventing crime.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Experience: One (1) year of recent law enforcement experience
AND
Possession of a Basic P.O.S.T Certificate
A Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate is required for this position. All candidates must submit a copy of their Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate by the application review period.Candidates who fail to submit their Basic P.O.S.T. Certificateby the application review period will be disqualified from the recruitment.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: Candidates who attended a college or university that is accredited by a foreign or non-U.S. accrediting agency must have their educational units evaluated by an educational evaluation service. The result must be submitted to the Human Resources Department no later than the close of the recruitment. Please contact the local college or university to learn where this service can be obtained.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least nineteen (19) years of age at the time of application.
Must Possess a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California drivers license is required. A valid Class B California drivers license may be required depending upon assignment.
Incumbent must be able to work in a noisy and stressful environment and which may require both near and far vision exposure to communicable disease and involve lifting objects weighing more than 100 pounds and which may include working with the full range of body movements involving reaching bending grasping and climbing.
Incumbents must be able to work any shift holidays and weekends and anywhere in the County.
Candidates for positions in this class will be required to pass a background investigation in accordance with applicable law regulation and/or policy.
Incumbents and candidates applying for positions in this class may be subject to depending on job assignment drug and alcohol testing as required under the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.Testing includes post-accident and pre-employment as well as random and reasonable suspicion testing as required by law.
Incumbents of this class have full peace officer powers as delineated in the California Penal Code and must therefore meet training requirements in accordance with Penal Code 832

RETIREES - Pursuant to Government Code Section 21221(h) and 21224 hiring restrictions apply to California Public Sector Pension Plan Retirees. Retired annuitants may be eligible to work more than 960 hours if the appointment satisfies the conditions of Government Code Section 7522.56(j).
