Project Controller (Shipyard Operations) Purpose: Colonnas Shipyard is seeking a Project Controller to support Shipyard Operations at our Shipyard in Norfolk VA. Position Summary: The Project Controller provides financial oversight and analytical support to ensure projects are executed in alignment with company objectives budgets and timelines. This role partners with project managers operations and finance teams to monitor performance report results and enforce compliance with company and contractual requirements. The Project Controller plays a critical role in supporting revenue recognition processes and ensuring purchase orders are efficiently managed and closed at project completion. The Project Controller supports our operations in Norfolk VA. Position reports onsite to our Corporate office (offering no current remote/hybrid work opportunities) and may require hours beyond a standard work week to support business operations during peak times.Work is generally performed within an office environment with standard office equipment available but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments. Position may require work hours beyond a standard work week to support business operations. Essential Duties andResponsibilities:
- Plan track analyze and report performance on projects of varying type size and complexity.
- Develop monitor and update project budgets forecasts and cost control systems.
- Track project performance against budgets and schedules identify variances and recommend corrective actions to improve progress/performance.
- Prepare and distribute monthly reporting to the stakeholder teams including revenue recognition analysis and support.
- Partner with finance during month-end close to validate project revenue costs and accruals.
- Monitor contract modifications and change orders to ensure timely financial and schedule updates.
- Spearhead the close-out of purchase orders and ensure all commitments are reconciled at project completion.
- Support project managers with financial data including cash flow profitability and margin analysis.
- Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules in coordination with planning and operations teams.
- Prepare project dashboards KPIs and executive summaries for management review.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls company policies and (where applicable) government contracting requirements (FAR DFARS DCAA).
- Support audits reviews and other governance activities related to project financials.
Required Qualifications: - Bachelors degree in Finance Accounting Business Administration Engineering or a related field.
- 37 years of experience in project controls project accounting or financial analysis; experience in shipyard construction engineering or defense contracting industries is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition principles.
- Proficiency in Excel ERP systems (SAP Oracle Deltek or equivalent) and project management software (Primavera MS Project or equivalent).
- Ability to analyze and present complex data clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Must be able to apply logic and sound reasoning to identify and resolve problems while working independently in a high-volume environment and ability to readily identify/determine priorities.
- Must have excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Travel Requirements: - Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Security Requirements: - Position requires US Citizenship.
Physical Requirements: - Sit Stand Walk Bend Squat Climb Reach Push and Pull Stoop Crawl Kneel Balance Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
- General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 30% of the time.
- Lighting and temperature are adequate and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise dust etc. Hear talk and smell.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work is generally performed within an office environment with standard office equipment available but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
- A considerable amount of time is spent operating a personal computer.
- Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility and onboard marine vessels.
