Head of Physics - Hammersmith West London

Lead a Core Science: Head of Physics Opportunity in Hammersmith!

We are seeking an inspirational highly specialist and experienced Head of Physics to lead a dedicated faculty within a successful secondary school located in the vibrant Hammersmith area of West London. This is a pivotal senior role within the Inner London pay zone offering the chance to drive forward academic excellence and practical inquiry in this fundamental science.

The Physics department is a cornerstone of the schools scientific provision achieving excellent results at A-Level and successfully placing students onto highly competitive university courses. The role offers the chance to lead your own specialism while benefiting from the support of a large overall Science faculty.

Key Responsibilities & Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional teacher and academic leader with a degree in Physics or a closely related discipline (e.g. Engineering) holding QTS and possessing a proven track record of successful departmental or key stage leadership within Physics.

As Head of Physics you will be expected to:

  • Strategic Vision: Develop and implement an ambitious vision for Physics overseeing curriculum design and specialist delivery from Key Stage 3 through to A-Level and extension programmes.
  • Curriculum & Attainment: Ensure the curriculum is rigorous and engaging using data effectively to drive student progress and achieve outstanding outcomes in Physics at all levels.
  • Practical & Technical Leadership: Manage and oversee all Physics laboratory equipment resources and demonstrations ensuring high safety standards and promoting inquiry-based practical work.
  • Team Development: Mentor and support the specialist Physics teachers within the wider Science team fostering pedagogical excellence and a passion for the subject.
  • Wider Contribution: Promote Physics and engineering careers across the school leading co-curricular activities like Robotics or STEM clubs.
