Job Description
About this Position:
Job Title: Network Engineer
Required Skills:
-
Minimum of ten (10) years experience in providing application development support in a multi-user LAN-based Microsoft Windows environment.
-
Five (5) years experience with Amazon Web Services / backups.
-
Ten (10) years experience installing configuring and supporting Microsoft Windows 7/10Pro Office 2013-2019 and Office 365 cloud services.
-
Five (5) years experience providing remote and on-site support of hardware and packaged software over a WAN.
-
Five (5) years experience designing installing configuring operating managing and troubleshooting problems on a WAN consisting of Cisco routers and switches.
-
Five (5) years experience installing configuring operating managing and troubleshooting problems with the Highview Imaging Application.
-
Five (5) years experience in providing help desk/application support services to a minimum of 300 users.
Duties:
-
Responsible for the design and implementation of large data communications or telecommunications networks.
-
Plans and monitors the installation of communications circuits.
-
Manage and monitor local area networks and associated equipment (e.g. bridges routers modem pools and gateways).
-
Conducts short and long-term plan to meet communications requirements.

Responsible for the design and implementation of LANs/WANs using hub switching and router technology.
-
Performs hardware/software analyses to provide comparative data of performance characteristics and suitability within the existing systems environment.

Prepares tradeoff studies and evaluations for vendor equipment.
-
Generates network monitoring/performance report for LAN/WAN utilization studies.
-
Recommends network design changes/enhancements for improved system availability and performance.
Education:
-
A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science Information Systems Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline.

If applicable shall be certified as network engineer for the specific network operating system as defined in the State task request.

The certification criteria are determined by the network operating system vendor.
General Experience:
-
Nine (9) years of experience in a computer-related field.
Specialized Experience:
-
Seven (7) years of progressive experience in planning designing implementation and analyzing data or telecommunications networks.

Must have experience with network analysis/management tools and techniques and be familiar with Personal Computers (PCs) in a client/server environment.

Must be familiar with IT technology and long distance and local carrier management.
Substitution of Education for Experience:
-
A Bachelors Degree or higher may be substituted for the general and specialized experience for those labor categories requiring a High School Diploma.
-
A Masters Degree may be substituted for two years of the general and specialized experience for those labor categories requiring a Bachelors Degree.
-
Substitution shall be reviewed and approved by the State at its discretion.
Substitution of Experience for Education:
-
Substitution of experience for education may be permitted at the discretion of the State.

Substitution of Professional Certificates for Experience:
-
Professional certification (e.g. Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert SQL Certified Database Administrator) may be substituted for up to two (2) years for general and specialized experience at the discretion of the State.
