Job Description
As a Field Estimator you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction and bidding process by conducting on-site evaluations of commercial roofing projects. This position focuses on gathering accurate field data including measurements photos material conditions and site logistics to provide the estimating team with the detailed information needed to develop accurate proposals.
Responsibilities
- Conduct On-Site Evaluations:
- Review and analyze project specifications drawings and related documents to gain a comprehensive understanding of the scope of work.
- Visit project locations to inspect existing roofing systems assess conditions and gather all relevant field data for estimating needs.
- Measure roofs using manual and digital tools (tape measure wheel laser drone core tool or imaging software) to produce accurate dimensions and area calculations.
- Capture comprehensive photo documentation and written notes detailing roof conditions access limitations and logistical considerations.
- Note and report any potential obstacles such as safety hazards access restrictions staging limitations or existing damage that may affect installation or costs.
- Collaboration and Coordination:
- Collaborate closely with estimators and project managers to ensure field data is clearly understood and incorporated into final estimates.
- Provide timely and accurate information to internal teams to support project planning and scheduling.
- Plan and manage extensive travel efficiently maintaining communication with internal teams about project priorities and timelines.
- Collaborate with the estimating team to review bids and participate in post-bid discussions with project managers.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of project take-offs including all supporting documentation and correspondence.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of estimating tools templates and processes.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Represent the Company at pre-bid meetings with owners general contractors or consultants to clarify project scopes and confirm site-specific requirements.
- Represent the Company professionally on all job sites maintaining strong relationships with clients consultants and project partners.
- Handle additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in construction management engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial roofing construction or related fieldwork.
- Strong understanding of commercial roofing systems (TPO PVC EPDM metal built-up etc.).
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
- Ability to read and interpret project specifications and drawings.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Team player attitude is a must.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Knowledge of local building codes and regulations is a plus.
- Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
- Ability to climb a 40-foot ladder and lift heavy objects.
- Extensive travel (75-90% including overnight travel).
