Job Summary
We are seeking a positive confident and detail-oriented GIS/GPS Specialist to join our growing team of exceptionally skilled leaders. As a GIS/GPS Specialist you will be a key member of our project team working alongside dedicated engineers geologists and scientists.
Your primary role will be to manage spatial data perform GIS analysis and create high-quality maps and visualizations for a wide range of our projects. You will be responsible for collecting processing and integrating GPS and other spatial data to support subsurface explorations construction activities and environmental site assessments throughout the Greater Boston area and New England.
Responsibilities
- Create update and manage project-specific geospatial databases.
- Produce high-quality maps site plans and figures for technical reports and presentations using ArcGIS software.
- Collect process and analyze field data using GPS equipment and software.
- Perform spatial analysis to support site characterization engineering design and environmental assessments.
- Integrate various data types including CAD files survey data aerial imagery and environmental sample results within a GIS environment.
- Develop and maintain data standards to ensure the quality and accuracy of all spatial data.
- Collaborate with project managers and technical staff to understand their mapping and data analysis needs.
- Prepare clear and accurate data reports and documentation.
- Assist with the visualization of subsurface data such as boring logs and groundwater contours.
- Maintain and operate GPS field equipment and GIS software/hardware.
- Occasionally assist with geotechnical geoenvironmental and geo-exchange related tasks on an as-needed basis which may involve performing environmental sampling observing subsurface explorations (e.g. borings test pits) and monitoring foundation-related construction activities.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelors Degree in GIS Geography Geomatics Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- Proficiency with Esris ArcGIS suite (ArcGIS Pro ArcMap ArcGIS Online) is essential. Knowledge of ArcPy is a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel Outlook) and Bluebeam Revu.
- Experience with GPS data collection and processing (e.g. Topcon geopositioning system).
- Strong organizational verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Possess the ability to maintain effective working relationships with McPhail staff and project teams.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or scripting languages (e.g. Python or MATLAB) is a significant plus.
- Familiarity with land surveying principles or field experience is a plus especially for settlement monitoring applications.
- Current 40-hour HAZWOPER training is preferred but not required.
Requirements
- Valid drivers license with reliable daily transportation.
- Ability to travel to active construction sites in Massachusetts and occasionally surrounding states.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time and lift materials and equipment up to 75 lbs.
