None/Not RequiredCollins Aerospace is seeking a talented Systems Safety Engineer to join our Avionics Reliability Maintainability & Safety (RMS) Engineering team. This organization supports the needs of our Military Avionics and Helicopters Business and Regional Systems or Air Transport programs in Cedar Rapids IA. Relocation assistance may be available.
Our charter is to promote the system safety and reliability of the design of Avionics systems and products by providing engineers that are specifically trained and knowledgeable in Reliability Maintainability and System Safety methods and processes. The RMS engineering field is challenging unique and dynamic.
What You Will Do:
Apply knowledge of software electrical and systems engineering processes and methodologies
Follow the project defined systems and software processes for design development verification and configuration management
Collaborate with engineers and generate a positive team working environment
Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills for purposes of developing requirements and design documentation and proposing well thought out solutions to technical problems
Quickly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design of sophisticated architectural systems
Perform civil safety assessment process in accordance with ARP4761 or military assessments in accordance with MIL-STD-882E including but not limited to System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs) Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs) Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSAs) System Safety Assessments (SSAs) Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs) Common Mode Analyses (CMAs) Hazard Tracking System (HTS)
Support systems hardware and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity
Review of design and development documentation for safety critical equipment
This individual will write requirements analyze failure conditions and create fault trees.
Perform Reliability Assessments which includes performing reliability predictions to establish MTBF estimates and component failure rates. These analyses utilize the 217Plus methodology and include utilizing field performance of similar equipment when applicable to increase accuracy of the assessment.
Perform Derating Analysis Failure Modes & Effects Analyses (FMEAs) High Intensity Radiation Fields (HIRF) and Lightning analysis Testability analysis and Maintainability Assessments.
What You Will Learn:
Experience- Industry specifics/ insights practical/ hands on skills that will be gained exposure to the latest tools and technology in the industry.
The detailed operation of existing aircraft platforms. Boeing 787 Bombardier Global 7500. Military helicopters like UH47k. Navigation sensors such as Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers.

Qualifications You Must Have:
Requires a Bachelors degree and 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).

The salary range for this role is 55000 USD - 107000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
