Job Summary
The Interim Assistant Director for Programming and Leadership Development is a full time interim position reporting to the Executive Director of Residence Life and Housing. The Assistant Director is responsible for the overall management of residence hall programming and leadership development consistent with the mission of the Residence Life department. The Assistant Director conducts job responsibilities in a manner that supports a departmental atmosphere open to meeting the reasonable expectations of clients and ensuring high quality services.
- The Assistant Director is responsible for the development and implementation of well a balanced programming model that is in line with the departments mission vision and core values while highlighting such important areas as educational application social interaction community development and diversity. The Assistant Director monitors all programming within the residence hall system.
- The Assistant Director is responsible for the training of Residence Life and Housing staff in the area of programming.
- The Assistant Director provides guidance to all residence hall areas in educational cultural and social programming as it relates to Community Assistants and area programming.
- The Assistant Director oversees maintains and updates a programming database.
- The Assistant Director oversees the Bears at Night Programming Series.
- The Assistant Director assists with the Residence Life programming budget.
- The Assistant Director enhances the co-curricular experience by organizing and facilitating large scale events and campus wide programming.
- The Assistant Director is responsible for cultivating a working relationship with faculty and administrators in the area of programming and hall presentations.
- The Assistant Director oversees the implementation of the departments residence hall council model.
- Assists with the development of departmental programs initiatives and trainings connected to intercultural competencies diversity equity and inclusion.
- The Assistant Director develops and conducts leadership development workshops each semester and assists with smaller in-hall development projects as needed.
- The Assistant Director provides advisement training for all staff that has advisement roles.
- The Assistant Director serves as the advisor to the Residence Hall Association.
- The Assistant Director serves as the departmental representative to university event committees such as Welcome Week Family Day Homecoming Events Advisory Council and various divisional committees as needed.
- The Assistant Director establishes goals and learning outcomes for their area of responsibility.
- The Assistant Director under the direction of the Executive Director creates tools necessary to collect and evaluate data relevant to the growth in programming and leadership development.
- The Assistant Director is a live on preferred position. The Assistant Director will be provided with a fully furnished apartment and serve in an on call rotation. While on call the Assistant Director will provide any guidance needed to the Resident Directors on duty.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree
- 2 years or moreof post undergraduate experience in Residence Life and Housing
- Experience developing and implementing programs and events
- Supervisory experience
- Experience serving in the role of an advisor to a student group
- Cultural competency as it relates to working with a diverse population
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as programs services and the University calendar necessitates
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree
- 2 or more yearsofprofessional experience in Residence Life and Housing
- Experience supervising graduate students
- Experience with residence hall governance
