JOB SUMMARY
ONEOK Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Instrumentation and Process Controls Technician Intern to join our team for a hands-on learning experience. This internship is designed for students actively pursuing a certificate or associate degree in Process Control and Instrumentation Electrical Engineering Technology or a related technical program. The intern will support the maintenance and optimization of control systems used in natural gas processing and pipeline operations gaining exposure to industry-standard platforms such as DCS PLC and SCADA systems.
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of experienced technicians and engineers the intern will:
- Assist in routine maintenance and troubleshooting of control systems including:
- Basic Process Control Systems (BPCS)
- Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
- Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
- Support hardware diagnostics (e.g. fault identification battery checks basic wiring inspections)
- Participate in software updates and backups for control systems
- Help perform preventive maintenance tasks such as climate control inspections and filter replacements
- Shadow technicians during after-hours system support and emergency response scenarios
- Aid in documentation and archiving of control system programs and configurations
- Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and best practices
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to understand control narratives and system logic
- Learn to interpret and modify graphics and control logic under supervision
- Observe and assist with project planning and implementation involving control system upgrades or expansions

- Currently enrolled in a certificate or associate degree program in Process Control and Instrumentation Electrical Engineering Technology Industrial Automation or a related field
- Basic understanding of control systems and instrumentation concepts

- Willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to follow safety protocols and work in field conditions
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with platforms such as Allen Bradley Modicon DeltaV or ClearSCADA
- Basic knowledge of networking and control system architecture
- Experience with technical documentation or programming coursework
Additional Information
- This internship may involve exposure to Department of Transportation (DOT) covered functions including operations and emergency response.
- Interns must be alert and responsive to safety-critical situations and follow all safety procedures.
