The Director of Compensation leads the strategic design and operational execution of global compensation and payroll programs. This role ensures compliant accurate and timely payroll processing while developing competitive and equitable compensation structures that align with business objectives and drive an exceptional employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
Compensation Strategy & Execution
Lead development and management of executive and employee compensation programs including base variable and incentive pay (401(k) SERP DCP equity bonuses).
Partner with HR and Finance to align compensation and benefits strategies with organizational goals.
Serve as a key contributor to talent planning performance management and workforce planning initiatives.
Compensation Framework & Analysis
Manage job classifications pay structures and salary adjustments using market data and benchmarking tools.
Drive compensation-related projects including job leveling pay grades and incentive structures.
Oversee annual compensation planning (merit promotions bonuses long-term incentives).
Deliver analysis and reporting for executive leadership and board-level decision-making.
Payroll Operations & Compliance
Oversee U.S. and international payroll processing ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
Manage payroll-related audits (401(k) W-2 tax year-end) and maintain strong internal controls.
Monitor tax laws and wage regulations; lead payroll issue resolution and continuous process improvement.
Budgeting Reporting & Forecasting
Prepare and manage compensation and payroll budgets forecasts and cost reporting.
Support financial planning through compensation-related journal entries reconciliations and analytics.
Generate insights and reporting to inform executive decisions and ensure transparency.
Systems Vendors & Tools
Oversee payroll systems and vendors (e.g. ADP) ensuring efficiency integration and optimization.
Lead payroll and compensation system enhancements and automation initiatives.
Leadership & Team Management
Lead and develop compensation and payroll staff; provide coaching feedback and performance oversight.
Serve as payroll processing back-up to ensure continuity.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Finance Accounting Business or related field.
10 years of progressive experience in compensation payroll or total rewards.
Expertise in Excel and compensation analysis; strong HRIS and payroll system experience.
Deep knowledge of multi-jurisdictional payroll operations and compliance.
Proven leadership project management and communication skills.
Strong analytical problem-solving and financial acumen.
