Job Description

The CSJ Administrative Director manages the daily operations of the Center for Social Justice reporting to the Director of the CSJ and working in collaboration with CSJ faculty administration and staff. The CSJ is a legal services office that houses most of the Law Schools clinical and pro bono programs. The Center currently offers ten clinics with approximately 60 students per semester. The Center also operates several in-house pro bono placements in areas including housing reentry and immigration and places students with outside organizations.

The Administrative Director assists the Director with formulating and implementing long-term strategy and short-term policy for the CSJ. The Administrative Director is responsible for law office management including financial functions such as budgeting reporting and grant report-writing as well as assisting in case management of litigation and developing office procedures in compliance with changing court rules and evolving law technology. The Administrative Director is charged with promoting and sharing information about the CSJ through various forms of media such as the website social media printed materials and clinical newsletters. The Administrative Director has oversight of the CSJ support staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the Daily Operations of the Center for Social Justice -- Develop review and implement office policies in compliance with University rules and policies to ensure efficient operations and compliance with court rules and professional responsibility codes on topics including case/file management office technology use of interpreters/translators mailing services and office supplies. Coordinate CSJ communications including social media and website.

Manage the CSJ Staff Manage office workflow organize schedules conduct performance evaluations. Review leave reports and timesheets. Develop professional development plans.

Manage Clinic Student Selection and Hiring of Student Interns -- Coordinate selection of clinic students hire and train law student interns in conjunction with supervising attorneys and develop and manage internship program.

Coordinate Hiring at CSJ and Onboarding of New Employees Students and Volunteers -- Develop position descriptions and postings for new lines and work with HR on hiring. Manage advertising of positions scheduling interviews and responding to applicants. Oversee training and orientation at CSJ.

Manage Professional Memberships Bar Admissions Professional Liability Insurance and Compliance with Court Rules

Supervise Case Intake and Management -- With input from faculty and managing attorneys determine and implement case acceptance practices based on subject area case type and client income eligibility. Oversee case opening and closing procedures. Address concerns and complaints from clients and potential clients. Provide legal representation as needed for case and pro bono project coverage.

Manage Pro Bono Service Program -- Serve as resource for questions about internal Pro Bono Service Program and the pro bono requirement for New York Bar admission. Implement policies and procedures for the SHLS Pro Bono Service Program. Supervise development of student led pro bono projects at CSJ.

Coordinate CSJ Scholars and/or CSJ Fellows Programs -- Design and manage CSJ Fellows and/or CSJ Scholars programs with support from faculty administrators and staff at CSJ.

Assist the Director with CSJ Fiscal Management Provide support for CSJ budgeting grant applications and reporting fundraising and trust/business accounts. Manage contracts and vendors for the CSJ. Manage CSJ credit card.

Assist in Community Outreach Assist Director and work with CSJ employees to manage relationships with community partners and outside organizations. Attend external events on behalf of CSJ.

Manage CSJ Events Coordinate with CSJ staff and Law School event staff to develop and organize CSJ-sponsored events including CLE events and collaborations with student organizations.

Required Qualifications:

JD Degree
Minimum of 10 years of legal and professional experience including representation of clients
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the development of legal programs demonstrated expertise in an anti-poverty/justice substantive area and/or management experience
Demonstrated experience with pro bono and volunteer programs
Demonstrated experience with grants management and grant applications and/or budgeting and accounting
Experience mentoring teaching or supervising law students recent law graduates or newer attorneys
Demonstrated commitment to public service
Demonstrated collaborative ability
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage projects effectively
Excellent professional judgment and commitment to principles of confidentiality
Excellent writing and communication skills

Licenses and Certificates:

J.D. with NJ bar admission (or ability to waive into NJ) and in good standing

Salary Range:

92000 - 126500

Exempt/Nonexempt:Exempt
