This Position reports to:
Chapter Leader- Solution Engineering PanelboardsIn this role you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABBs success with technology software product and system development. Each day you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

This role is contributing to the Smart Power NAM Construction & Infrastructure Power Panelboard team in Bloomfield CT.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- The Engineer will be responsible for the design development and manufacturing implementation of engineering programs that meet business standards and program / product requirements
- Design develop analyze and document product designs which meet the functional cost reliability manufacturability and safety requirements of the customer or market
- Support engineering change orders (ECNs/ICNs) to ensure smooth implementation into production
- Investigate and resolve supply chain issues including sourcing alternate components and materials due to obsolescence shortages or cost concerns
- Lead and support cost reduction initiatives by identifying opportunities in materials processes and design optimizations without compromising quality or performance
- Create and maintain technical documentation for all design work and present material for technical review including but not limited to tolerance loops drawings bill of materials product cost problem and action lists risk management and failure root cause analysis reviews
- Execute designs with solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models assemblies detailed drawings and BOMs for designs which may include plastic stamped metal and electrically conductive parts
- BS Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years in a design and/or production support engineering role
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze technical issues and implement effective solutions quickly
- Self-motivated and proactive capable of managing multiple priorities and tasks with minimal supervision
- Experience in mechanical design including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation in PTC Creo (or similar CAD tools)
- Experience with Bill of Materials (BOMs) generation
- Thrives in a team-first culture where knowledge-sharing mutual support and collective problem-solving are prioritized over individual silos
- Willingness to travelup to 4 times per year to support manufacturing plant visits or cross-site collaboration efforts
