Staff Accountant
Role: The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for managing and reconciling payroll for the credit union on a biweekly basis in addition to supporting the Accounting and Finance team with various accounting duties.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities: - Reviews verifies accuracy and reconciles all payroll and benefit GLs on a bi-weekly basis.
- Maintains records of all fixed asset acquisitions disposals and depreciation. Assists with the physical audit of all fixed assets as required by Credit Union policy. Prepares monthly balance report and sends daily loan to share email to management. Accounts for FAS91 activity on all indirect loans. Posts corresponding journal entries for and reconciles tax collector receipts. Reconciles and monitors various general ledger accounts as assigned.
- Assists with Abandoned Property. Completes required reports and maintains files as needed. Post journal entries as needed.
- Maintains regular contact with other departments to obtain information and/or to correct transactions. Keeps management informed of activities with any significant problems.
- Develops and maintains procedures and desk procedures for the responsibilities of the position.
- Serves as a backup to other staff accountants in the department as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills: - Experience:One year to three years of similar or related experience.
- Education:(1) A bachelors degree or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelors degree. Accounting or Finance degree preferred.
- Interpersonal Skills:Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution building relationships and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion requiring diplomacy and tact in communication. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.
- Other Skills:Basic knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices the financial markets Credit Unions and the analysis and reporting of financial data. Demonstrates carefulness about detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks. 10-key proficiency; must be able to operate general office equipment. Intermediate level Microsoft Office Excel Outlook and Word experience.
- Physical Requirements:Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to focus on computer screen for extended periods of time. Ability to operate personal computer and 10-key calculator. Ability to speak clearly with sufficient volume to be heard and ability to hear responses.
