Job Summary
Peer Counselor position works with peers to provide support with education resources and community integration to promote the recovery process. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Engages others in collaborative and caring relationships without judgment. Provides individual education support coaching and mentoring. Facilitates recovery-oriented groups and activities. Assists and supports peers in identifying and setting goals. Maintains current information about community resources and services. Assists peers in identifying selecting and accessing community resources and services. Shares their recovery story as a framework to support others in their own recovery. Inspires hope by modeling personal responsibility resilience self-advocacy and wellness. Advocates on behalf of others with behavioral health problems. Receives weekly individual supervision from program supervisory staff. Interfaces with hospital staff providers family members and others supporting clients goals and action plans. Serves on designated committees. Completes required documentation and trainings in a timely manner. Complies with all HIPPA regulations regarding privacy and confidentiality. Follows the ethical standards of McLean Hospital and the American Psychological Association. High school education is required. Certification: Certification as a Peer Specialist (CPS) preferred. Once hired CPS certification must be obtained within designated time. This is a condition of employment; employees who do not attain CPS certification within 6 months will be ineligible to continue employment in this position. Massachusetts Drivers license is preferred. For more information regarding the CPS training please visit: High school education is required. Certification: Certification as a Peer Specialist (CPS) preferred. Once hired CPS certification must be obtained within designated time.
