About our team Mō te tīma
Otago is famous for its residential college communities supporting thousands of mostly first-year students as they begin their tertiary journey at the University of Otago. Te Whare Whakamaru o Te Rangihīroa is the newest and most modern of these colleges. Named after the University of Otagos first Māori medical graduate Te Rangihīroa / Sir Peter Buck the name was gifted to the University by the iwi of Te Rangihīroa Ngāti Mutunga.
The role Te mahi
Tautiaki-Kaiāwhina (Assistant Wardens) are key members of the College pastoral and welfare team. With a focus on wellbeing / oraka they provide culturally appropriate opportunities for residents to experience cultural sporting academic and personal development in a positive college environment.

We are looking for a future leader who is resilient and capable of handling (sometimes) difficult and complex situations.
Our ideal candidate will have:
Experience working with young adults in a leadership capacity.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in emergency or crisis situations.
Experience in engaging tauira and managing a variety of safe and fun tauira focussed events and activities.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to achieve a range of tasks under competing demands within agreed timeframes.
Experience in the tertiary sector would be a distinct advantage.
This exciting role will suit people from varied backgrounds who are passionate about working with young adults. Candidates with knowledge and appreciation of cultural issues and knowledge of Tikanga Māori and / or knowledge in providing positive opportunities for Tauira Māori will be especially welcome.

The current vacancy is a permanent full time live-out (accommodation is not provided) position based in Ōtepoti Dunedin. Due to the nature of the role required hours of work are rostered across evenings and weekends.
The salary level for this position is provisionally evaluated as Level 5 ($69931 to $74609. Top of Range $80285) and is subject to change.
You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this job.
From time to time you may be deployed to different colleges to suit the needs of the Division. This may include leave coverage conference support assistance with summer business such as Hands on Otago Summer School etc.
