ABOUT THE UPPER GRAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD (UGDSB)

The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35000 students attending a variety of programs across 66 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin Wellington and the City of Guelph. The UGDSB covers the ancestral and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit the Six Nations of the Grand River and Saugeen Ojibway Nation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team for a temporary full-time opportunity in the capacity of Social Worker/Attendance Counsello r . This is a 10-month position (yearly from Sept. June following the school year calendar) to commence as soon as possible with an anticipated end date of June 26 2026.

Reporting to the Manager of Social Work & Attendance Counselling the successful candidate will provide counselling therapeutic interventions and attendance support for students.

Location: Dufferin Area Elementary Schools

*school location/geographical area cannot be guaranteed in perpetuity. School location/geographical area are subject to change based on student and system needs.

H ours/FTE: 1.0 FTE (35 hours per week)

Salary Range: Base salary: $78219 - $98447 (based on a 1.0 FTE full-time annual salary wage rate effective September 1 2025) plus applicable vacation pay in accordance with the Employment Standards Act

*Labour market adjustment of 6.5% to be applied to base salary; salary range inclusive of market adjustment is $83303 - $104846 per annum (based on a 1.0 FTE full-time annual salary wage rate effective September 1 2025) plus applicable vacation pay in accordance with the Employment Standards Act

Board Information: 10 months; temporary full-time; Professional Student Services Personnel

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based social work interventions to students in person and through virtual platforms
  • Responsible to demonstrate evidence of solid clinical skills using a variety of clinical modalities. Examples may include: BRISC Brief Digital Interventions Motivational Interviewing Solution Focused Interventions Narrative Therapy CBT DBT and Trauma Informed Modalities
  • Responsible for clinical assessment intervention case management and monitoring of caseload
  • Responsible for the development and delivery of group clinical interventions
  • Responsible to engage with students families and staff develop trusting and supportive relationships and to work collaboratively within the UGDSB and wider community system
  • Utilize strength-based trauma informed and anti-oppressive practices
  • Violent Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) & Crisis Intervention Response responsibilities across the system
  • Responsible to participate and engage in system committees and professional development as required
  • Responsible for consultation engagement and linkages between schools community agencies and hospitals
  • Responsible for performing mandatory attendance management services as per the Education Act and to perform home visits
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain up to date and accurate documentation in accordance with the Ontario College of Social Worker and Social Service Workers professional Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the Health Care Consent Act (HCCA)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Master of Social Work Degree (MSW) must be registered with The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in similar surrounding
  • Expertise with students demonstrating behavioural/mental health disorders
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with school age youth
  • Previous experience as a school-based social worker/counselling and attendance would be an asset
  • Knowledge and familiarity of geographical area and service agencies
  • Reliable transportation to attend specified schools
