Grade and Salary: Grade 6 31236 - 36636 per annum
FTE and working pattern: 1FTE 35hrs per week Monday - Friday
Holiday Entitlement: 33 days annual leaveplus 9 buildings closed days (and Christmas Eve when it falls on a weekday)
Purpose of Role
An experienced electronics technician is required to provide high quality technical support for research and teaching groups within the school of EPS working as part of the ElectronicsWorkshop team. The roleholder will be heavily involved in undergraduate student projects and demonstration of electronic equipment and experiments. Your role will require you to provide design construction and fabrication support in the production and maintenance of specialised bespoke laboratory systems and equipment.
You will have 3-5 years post apprentice experience in a workshop environment - not necessarily in a teaching or research context. The holder will work between several research laboratories and a technical workshop and will be expected to be skilled in the use of a wide range of electronic test equipment and data acquisition equipment. You should also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with a broad range of people.
Reporting to the workshop supervisor the successful candidate should have previous experience gained in a busy engineering research teaching or commercial environment and possess a proven track record of problem solving.
The role holder will work as part of an integrated electronics and mechanical workshop team supplying a service of electronic design of digital and analogue circuitry production and fabrication of equipment maintenance and repair of various electronic circuits and equipment for both teaching and research purposes.
The post includes the day-to-day responsibility for all aspects related to health and safety of staff and students within the workshop areas.
The Role holder will be expected to be flexible in the hours worked normally 8:30am to 4:15pm Monday to Friday working on average 35 hours per week. Occasional work at weekends may be required for Open Days student events etc. The GRID building is a new concept in student training and variation to working practices will evolve over the coming semesters to allow the best student training contact for teaching development.
