Job Summary
This is a paid position through work-study or student employment and allows students to grow in leadership professional and soft skills. Areas may include Auto Shop Nano Lab Physics/Electronics area Electromechanical Machine ShopWelding areaand Graphics area.
Academic Lab Assistants (those who set up the labs for use in the Applied Technology and Engineering area) will receive $15.00/hour. All other positions in this category will receive $14.00/hour. Positions in this area will report to Learning Coordinator Engineering & Advanced Manufacturing.
Application Information
While there may not be an immediate need for a student employee in every area Northcentral Technical College (NTC) accepts applications regardless in order to create a pool for when there may be a need. Upon successful submission of your application you will be considered for future part-time student employee opportunities and your application will be on file as a potential candidate who could possibly fill a position if or when the need arises.
NOTE:
It is in your best interest to apply for more than one position in the event other candidates are already being considered for this position you want to leave your options open for other positions. Student and Federal Work-Study employees may work up to 20 hours per week total.
You will need to re-apply at the beginning of each semester for work-study/student positions due to any school or work-study changes that may have occurred changing your status. Each semester the applications for each position will be refreshed with new applications of those who re-apply to keep the applicant pool current for supervisors.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Handing out tools
Completing repairs on auto shop cars
Moving equipment and other auto related duties
Complete cleaning and minor maintenance of training equipment disinfecting personal protective equipment and safety mats.
General maintenance of equipment such as cleaning oiling organizing general maintenance and repairs completing minor maintenance of Criminal Justice vehicles to include checking engine fluid levels fuel levels tire pressure driving vehicles to service facilities maintaining accurate weekly records of vehicle maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Must be an active student enrolled in at least 6 credits. Please note that students are not permitted to work in Federal Work-Study positions during scheduled class times.
For automotive-related positions: student must be in second year of Automotive program and needs to be able to lift 50 pounds.
Must have valid drivers license and be able to meet NTC insurance carrier standards.
For Nano Lab and Physics/Electronics positions applicants must have basic knowledge of soldering and putting together electrical components have great communication skills and mechanical ability.
Maintain and set up/fix equipment in the physics electronics and nanoscience labs. Applicants must be enrolled in the Nanotechnology Certificate program.
For Physics/Electronics students who have taken one or two physics and/or electronics courses preferred.
Welding related positions will move material and equipment assist with inventory clean and paint equipment build racks shelves storage devices lubricate fab equipment.
Use equipment and tools typically found in a welding shop to prep materials for student use (prep metal for the welding department including organizing sorting and cutting).
Maintain welding equipment and protective gear.
