Job Description

Role Title: Counselling Psychologist in Paediatrics (Staff Grade)
Role Location: Carrickmines Vhi360 Centre

A full-time 12 month fixed term contract (Maternity Leave Cover) has arisen within Vhi for a Staff Grade Counselling Psychologist in Paediatrics to deliver high quality child and adolescent psychology services as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The successful candidate will work as a member of the Paediatric team providing services to children and adolescents with mild to moderate developmental needs.

Role Purpose
  • Carry an assessment therapy and consultation caseload to support children and adolescents with mild to moderate needs.
  • Formulate and implement therapeutic intervention plans for young people and their families based on various conceptual frameworks and evidence-based literature in line with scope of service.
  • Maintain all documentation in accordance with department and professional standards.
  • Carry out individual and group-based interventions for young people and their families.
  • Ensure quality and accountability by using best practice processes that measure therapeutic effectiveness and secure meaningful service user feedback as part of audit and quality improvement within the service.



Education & Experience
  • Hold a post-graduate professional qualification in either clinical or counselling psychology recognized by the Psychological Society of Ireland and/or validated by the Department of Health and Children in Clinical Psychology;
  • Be eligible for Staff Grade position and have experience working in child and family services in addition to time spent in postgraduate professional training.
  • Possess the requisite knowledge and ability to carry out the required jobs of the post.
  • Demonstrated alignment to Vhi values


Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Effective planning and time management skills.
  • Proficient in navigating IT systems and comfortable using digital platforms
  • Ensure flexibility to adapt service delivery to meet clients needs.
  • Foster effective working relationships with colleagues and other relevant professionals in maximising the service users experience.
