Position Summary
The Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal state and local tax regulations. This role supports the preparation and review of tax filings monitors legislative updates coordinates tax audits and drives process improvements across payroll sales/use and corporate tax functions. This position plays a key role in mitigating tax risks and supporting the organizations financial health and strategic goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
General Tax Compliance
Prepare and file federal state and local tax returns (e.g. income property franchise excise).
Maintain tax calendars to ensure timely filing and avoid penalties.
Monitor and interpret changes in tax law to assess business impact.
Maintain organized documentation to support filings and audits.
Payroll Tax Compliance
Ensure accurate calculation and remittance of payroll taxes (FICA SUTA FUTA etc.).
Reconcile payroll reports to general ledger entries.
File payroll tax forms (e.g. 941 940 W-2 W-3) and state equivalents.
Respond to agency tax notices and collaborate with HR and Payroll teams.
Sales & Use Tax Compliance
Manage multistate sales/use tax filings and remittances.
Maintain and update taxability matrices for goods and services.
Monitor exemption certificates and documentation.
Partner with billing and ERP teams to ensure system accuracy and tax setup.
Audit Support & Documentation
Process Improvement & Systems
Identify and implement automation opportunities for recurring filings.
Assist with tax software (e.g. ADP) implementation and maintenance.
Support tax integration during M&A or system transitions.
Required Qualifications
Associate or Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field (Bachelors preferred).
35 years of relevant accounting or tax experience.
Proficiency in spreadsheets databases and accounting systems.
Strong knowledge of tax laws payroll tax and multi-jurisdictional compliance.
Excellent organizational communication and analytical skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
