We are looking for a collaborative litigator with solid judgment and interpersonal skills to join our Canadian Legal Team in the role of Litigation Senior Counsel. You can work from Vancouver Edmonton or Calgary with the flexibility to split your time between home and office. It will involve travel for file related matters.

• A continuous improvement and innovative approach to managing litigation practice

What will you do

• Directly manage a large caseload of insurance claims cases (primarily life and disability) as counsel of record
• Litigate routine aspects of cases including discoveries mediations and motions
• Contribute as needed to litigation team projects and initiatives involving other teams and stakeholders while managing day-to-day aspects of file work
• Give clear and concise advice to business partners and colleagues on litigated and non-litigated matters

What do you need to succeed

• Membership with a Canadian law society preferably in British Columbia and/or Alberta
• Have 15 years of experience practicing at a law firm or in an in-house legal team
• Be enthusiastic about leveraging data and technology in their practice
• Engage and influence others with confidence candour and openness
• Build strong relationships with colleagues and business partners
• Be resilient and able to adapt to change
• Consider and consult relevant information to articulate key issues and risks
• Articulate view points using clear and concise language to provide proactive advice
• Take a risk-based approach to their work
• Enthusiasm for using data and technology to solve problems
• Confidence in communicating and influencing others
• Clear writing and speaking skills

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other addition to Base Pay eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
