Job Summary
Position Information
This is a Department Promotional Examinationand is open to eligible employees of theKern County Public Works Departmentwho have permanent status in the classified service and received an overall standard or better on their last employee performance report.
EXAMINATION SCHEDULE:Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled date(s)/time(s)/location without exception.
- Oral exam: will be conducted on Thursday October 23 2025.
Examinations:
Oral Exam (Weight 100%):Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicants training education experience interest and personal fitness for the position.
The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant an oral exam.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.Minimum Qualifications/ Employment Standards:
Completion of a Bachelors Degree in Business of Public Administration or a closely related degree and three (3) years increasing experience in a managerial administrative or staff capacity performing administrative tasks involving budget preparation personnel analysis reporting systems data processing or in closely related work requiring substantial knowledge of statistical fiscal or accounting methods. A Masters Degree in Business or Public Administration may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
License: Valid Class III California Motor Vehicle Operators License

Additional Information
Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.
A background check may be conducted for this classification.
Following an offer of employment you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which one (1) immediate appointment will be made at the Public Works Department. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed.
Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
