About us

The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response including road crash rescue bushfire hazardous material technical and vertical rescue severe weather incidents remote and swiftwater rescue and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.


The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt prevent mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.


The QFD is an organisation that is committed to reframing the departments relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples communities and organisations through activities identified in the QFD Reframing the Relationship Plan contributing to Closing the Gap outcomes and building our cultural capability.

Purpose of the role

Enterprise IT Solutions and Services is responsible for the management and delivery of enterprise business systems business platforms data and integration systems and information management that ensure QFD systems information solutions and platforms are designed and managed to meet the departments IT vision and strategy within the areas of responsibility.


Reporting to the Chief Information Officer Information and Technology you will provide leadership and direction through all functions of the branch including managing human resource financial and budget planning and program management and reporting. You will be responsible for leading and managing the planning development and implementation of a centralised enterprise-level technology service delivery for ICT solutions and applications that maximise customer satisfaction and operational efficiencies.

Key requirements

Highly desirable requirements

  • Degree in computer science information systems or a related field.
  • Proven experience in managing enterprise project delivery and application enhancements including stakeholder management and portfolio funding.
  • Strong knowledge of application and SaaS domain high level architecture with expertise is designing scalable and secure solutions and services.
  • Relevant certifications in ITIL (preferably V4.0) TOGAF UCD or Prince2Agile.
  • Solid analytical skills and problem-solving abilities with a track record of driving successful customer centric outcomes in complex environments.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work including but not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the provision of a centralised enterprise-level technology service delivery to ensure all technical aspects of resource planning business intelligence and analytics technologies support the departments strategic and operational objectives.
  • Drive the implementation of effective solution delivery including projects and enhancements domain architecture and the enterprise solutions roadmap to ensure IT needs are addressed and solutions meet organisational requirements.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior executives in the development and execution of plans for optimising the enterprise application/service portfolio to support effective decision-making and alignment with operational business needs and objectives
  • Define and maintain high-level domain architecture frameworks and principles to guide the enablement and integration of enterprise solutions.
  • Identify and mitigate risks issues and dependencies related to enterprise applications implementing proactive measures or provision of continuous improvement strategies to ensure smooth operation throughout the application lifecycle.
  • Research and analyse emerging technologies industry trends and best practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the application/services space.
  • Develop maintain and report on a pragmatic suite of application and service-related metrics and key performance indicators to enable key stakeholders to efficiently manage solutions architecture and information.
  • Manage human financial and physical resources ensuring client service and performance management and drive a culture of accountability and fairness that encourages and enables teams and individual staff to meet challenges develop skills and achieve results.
