The Department of Natural Resources is responsible for the development management conservation and protection of forest mineral parks and wildlife resources and the administration of the provinces Crown land. The Geoscience and Mines Branch of the Department of Natural Resources manages mineral resources to achieve optimum economic social and environmental value for Nova Scotia. Within the Branch the Mineral Management Division includes amongst others a team which manages the Registry of Mineral and Petroleum Titles (the Registry).

As the Registry Support Geologist you will report to the Manager Registry of Mineral and Petroleum Titles and provide expertise in mineral rights management and regulation in the Province of Nova this role you will participate in the administration of the Mineral Resources Act and Regulations. You will build and maintain relationships within the Geoscience and Mines Branch the Department of Natural Resources other government departments and jurisdictions and with stake and rights holders.

Primary Accountabilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following amongst other tasks:

Registry Support Geologist

Responding to inquiries (verbally and in writing) from stakeholders with guidance and expertise on Mineral Resources (and other) legislation and directing inquiries to other Government staff where appropriate

Supporting stakeholders in the use of the Mineral Rights Online Registry System (NovaROC)

Reviewing and making recommendations on applications for mineral rights for compliance with legislation

Representing the branch/division/section on various working groups and committees

Providing preliminary review of technical assessment reports and prospector statements

Processing and recording payments and refunds

Preparing reports which describe current statistics and analysis of mineral rights in Nova Scotia

Developing and updating procedures/processes and other documentation related to the work of the Registry

Occasionally supporting Exploration Monitoring Geologist in field inspections

Qualifications and Experience

As the successful candidate you have:

A bachelors degree in earth or geosciences and a minimum of three summers of related experience.

Strong communication (both oral and written) interpersonal time management and judgment skills are essential.

Experience in a direct customer/client facing role.

A valid drivers license.

Some knowledge of the Provinces Mineral Resources Act and Regulations.

Competencies in several computer programs (e.g. Microsoft Word Excel ARCGIS)

We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination standardized tests oral presentations interview(s) and reference checks.

Working Conditions

Normal work week is 35 hours/week 7 hours/day

May be required to work overtime on occasion

Expected to be eligible for flexible work arrangements (work from home or other location up to two days per week) following training/onboarding period

Pay Grade: PR 07- PR 12

Salary Range: $2004.96- $2982.67Bi-Weekly
