The Commissioner of the Revenue is looking for a Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue to the join the King William County Team. Under general supervision this non-exempt position is responsible for assisting with the assessment of taxes and administration of the King William County Ordinances. This position reports to and serves at the pleasure of the Commissioner of Revenue.
Communicate with taxpayers and citizens in person by telephone and via email in a courteous respectful and professional manner.
Assist in the assessment of local taxes including personal property excise and local business licenses as well as Virginia State Income Tax.
Assist taxpayers in preparing the required tax returns and relief applications; evaluate documentation for compliance with state and local codes.
Maintain and audit databases for accuracy; enter data manually or import electronically and correct inaccuracies.
Process abatements exonerations supplemental billing for prior/current year taxes based on county policy and/or ordinances.
Prepare files reports correspondence based on verbal and/or written instructions; and handle and maintain confidential information and records; and provide accurate timely information to citizens and internal customers.
Serve as backup for other staff within the Commissioner of the Revenues Office.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Abilities
Associate degree or coursework in business administration accounting finance or a related field is preferred; and two (2) related experience in tax administration public service or office administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the knowledge skills abilities of position.
Additional Requirements
Requires a valid Commonwealth of Virginia drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
Must successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment substance abuse testing.
