The Opportunity

The Senior Contracts and Procurement Manager sets the strategic direction for procurement and contract management across the organization. This role oversees the full contract lifecycle firmwide ensuring consistent practices compliance and value creation. The Senior Manager leads high-stakes negotiations resolves complex disputes and develops policies that drive efficiency mitigate risk and support organizational growth.

Working closely with executive leadershipincluding the COO CFO and General Counselthe Senior Contracts and Procurement Manager acts as a trusted advisor on procurement and contractual matters. This role supervises contracts and procurement staff leads risk reviews on multimillion-dollar agreements and serves as the escalation point for claims disputes and compliance issues.

What You Will Do Essential Responsibilities

  • Set organizational strategy for contracts and procurement aligning firmwide policies and procedures with company objectives and client requirements.
  • Oversee the contract lifecycle for the entire firm from planning and solicitation through negotiation execution compliance and renewal.
  • Lead high-value and complex negotiations ensuring favorable terms risk mitigation and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Act as escalation point for contractual disputes claims and compliance issues working directly with executives outside counsel and insurers to achieve resolution.
  • Supervise procurement staff and contract administrators providing guidance coaching and professional development to build team expertise.
  • Implement firmwide procurement and contracting policies ensuring compliance with public contract codes education codes and applicable regulations.
  • Lead risk reviews on multimillion-dollar contracts identifying exposures recommending mitigations and advising senior leadership.
  • Liaise with external partners including outside counsel insurers and bonding companies to support contract negotiations and risk management strategies.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients consultants contractors and other key stakeholders.
  • Partner with Finance Legal and executive leadership (COO CFO GC) to ensure contract and procurement strategies align with financial planning compliance and governance priorities.
  • Represent the firm in executive-level meetings board presentations and client engagements related to contracts and procurement activities.
  • Monitor and analyze procurement trends market conditions and legal developments to proactively adjust strategy.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in procurement practices and systems.
  • Perform other related strategic duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in business construction management public administration or related field required; advanced degree (MBA JD or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • Ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible experience in contracts and procurement including five (5) or more years in a leadership or senior management role (education may substitute for some experience).
  • Extensive experience negotiating and managing multimillion-dollar high-complexity contracts in the California K14 education market or similarly regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in alternative procurement and construction delivery models (Design-Build Design-Bid-Build CM at Risk JOC Prequalification strategies).
  • Proven success in implementing firmwide procurement and contract management policies.
  • Advanced understanding of public contract codes education codes and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong track record in risk management including leading risk reviews and coordinating with outside counsel insurers and bonding companies.
  • Exceptional financial acumen with ability to analyze complex financial models and forecasts.
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills capable of influencing executives boards and external stakeholders.
  • Recognized for leadership strategic thinking results orientation and ability to manage teams effectively.
