Under the direction of the Manager the Technology Assessment Officer (TAO) provides a systematic approach in the management of medical technology used in the centre. The TAO provides strategic planning & guidance to Clinical Programs for assessing and implementing new Medical Equipment technology assessing and developing ongoing service support programs and providing planning and support to life cycle renewals for existing medical equipment within the centre.
Duties include but are not limited to: Strategic Technology Planning Equipment Procurement Support Analysis & Assessment of New Technology and Management and Communication.
7.5-hour shift; Monday to Friday 0800-1600
Undergraduate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology field with a combination of experience and/or education in Human Anatomy Physiology and Healthcare Technology Management (Designation as a Professional Engineer () recognized by the Province of Nova Scotia is seen as an asset)
Would also accept Diploma in relevant Engineering Technology program with experience and/or education in Human Anatomy Physiology and Healthcare Technology as well as Certification as an Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) recognized by Canadian Council of Technician and Technologists in combination with Certification as a Biomedical Engineering Technologist (C.B.E.T.) recognized by Canadian Board of Examiners (may be considered as an equivalent).
Minimum of seven years experience in a Clinical Engineering and health care setting required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong financial project risk and operational management skills
Resilient people management skills with proven background in change management and conflict resolution.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Robust strategic thinking and planning skills that translate into effective implementations.
Comprehensive knowledge of codes standards and accepted practices related to Medical Equipment/Clinical Engineering.
Solid understanding of the health care delivery system with particular emphasis on supporting clinical operations.
Self-directed and highly motivated as an individual or in a team environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to prepare well-articulated organized and reader-friendly letters documents reports etc.
Ability to build relationships and converse/collaborate with a range of stakeholders at various levels from executives to front-line staff Representatives from External Vendors and equipment OEMs strategic partners in NS Healthcare (Nova Scotia Health (NSH) NSH IM/IT Nova Scotia Digital Services EHS)
Excellent grasp of diverse fundamental engineering / technical concepts and relationships. Must have a deep understanding of human physiology medical physics (i.e. imaging) electrophysiology biomechanics and instrumentation as well as having a deep understanding of the medical device industry.
Ability to facilitate the integration of new technologies and provide innovative technical solutions to ensure that IWK Health is enabled to meet organizational mandate.
High level of proficiency with computer systems specifically Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated commitment to continued learning.
Competencies in other languages are an asset.
