Job Description
The Opportunity
The Security Administrator leads as a specialist on the technical support team providing expertise to support the effective and efficient operation of core user systems and platforms ensuring optimized performance and availability for system users. Liaises with other IT team members end users and vendors to provide Tier 2 troubleshooting and support; and to optimize system performance.
Status: Casual Full-Time Union
Number of Positions: 1
Pay Grade: 15 ($41-56 - $48.12 per hour)
Location: Vancouver or open to any of our BC regional offices (hybrid work environment)
Reports to: Leader IT Operations
As a Security Administrator you will:
- Work with Technical Support Analysts on reviewing weekly service desk tickets to prioritize tasks and find solutions and/or discover root causes. Test and implement solutions that align with best IT security practices.
- Recommend and develop a framework of processes practices and standards pertaining to system administration. Liaise with the IT Security team to ensure new security policies and practices are aligned with the current framework.
- Monitor system performance conduct system testing and take action to optimize and fine-tune core user systems and platforms. Provide Tier 2 troubleshooting and support.
- Perform installations configurations backups recovery and ongoing maintenance and administration of server-based production systems. Where possible utilize Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions over on premise.
- Develop and employ tools to ensure servers and services deployment are consistent and automated
- Develop and maintains accurate and current documentation of system settings specifications processes and procedures as well as recovery plans.
- Provide expertise to other team members on current work efforts including input on potential solutions to problems.
- Provide status report updates to the Leader on systems administration achievements and challenges.
- Conduct research and continuously maintains knowledge and awareness of technology products and industry trends identifying and recommending opportunities to support and enhance systems administration.
- Maintain reliable vendor relationships and collaborates with service providers to analyze and resolve problems.
- Validate systems end user accounts permissions access rights and perform system audits in partnership with stakeholders in compliance of IT security mandate.
- Assess application changes required or functionality needed to be configured by analyzing the change requests or work assignments received to support manage and maintain the corporate intranet system.
Knowledge Skills & Experience you have:
- The required knowledge and skills for the position would be acquired through a degree in computer science and/or 3-5 years of experience in IT involving system administration.
- Knowledge of managing MS Office 365 and Exchange Online MS OneDrive MS Teams MS Azure and SharePoint Online
- Knowledge of Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems such as MS Intune and JAMF Pro
- Knowledge of automating tasks using scripts such as PowerShell Perl VB script or equivalent
- Knowledge of MS Active Directory and Azure AD an asset.
- Knowledge of DNS DHCP BOOTP and networking
- Knowledge of VMware vSphere ESXi Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop or similar VDI experience
- Knowledge of Linux / UNIX macOS Windows OS
- Solid knowledge of the concepts theories practices and techniques of the IT field with emphasis on administration of core user systems
- Solid business acumen to understand business requirements as they pertain to core user systems and platforms
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills to provide expertise liaise with other team members and end users and to maintain relationships with external vendors
- Solid planning and coordination skills to plan and carry out system administration activities on multiple core user systems and platforms
- Solid analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills as they pertain to Tier 2 troubleshooting and support as well as system testing and performance tracking
